Modern Lectures: Flipped Classroom and Other Ideas That Activate Learners (asynchronous phase begins on 23.09.2025)

Content
Classes that consist mostly of lengthy presentations by the lecturer don't match the needs of today's students, nor those of instructors. The ease with which information can be disseminated online – via text, audio materials, videos, games and now even chatbots – means that meeting in a large hall to listen to a presentation simply isn’t efficient anymore. Research has proven time and again that long lectures don’t support students’ cognitive and motivational needs. Yet the lecture still persists as a course format in higher education.
This course will show you how to create active and engaging lectures, both in-person and virtually. The flipped classroom is a prime example of a modern, interactive lecture format. It doesn’t matter whether you have 40 or 400 students: there are simple things you can do to make your lecture more engaging, modern, and effective.
This course itself is taught in a flipped classroom format, meaning that you will be able to experience these principles for yourself and see what you might like to apply in your own teaching. The course begins with about four hours of self-study and closes with a three-hour workshop in which you will be able to ask questions, exchange ideas and feedback with other instructors, and create a clear vision for how you want to change your own lecture.
